About the

Northeast Institute of Gymnastics has been in existence for 35 years. The school is the oldest gymnastics school in Albany. We feature a 5,000 square foot training facility complete with a full line of women's Olympic apparatus and the area's largest selection of preschool equipment. Northeast also features a foam-filled pit for safe learning progressions as well as a new Tumble-Trac to teach tumbling. Northeast Gymnastics is a member of USA Gymnastics as well as United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs. Our goal is to become the highest quality gymnastics program in the Albany, New York area.

The school is under the professional direction of CHRIS CHAKAS and KIMBERLY SIGSBEE. They both bring to Northeast many years of experience working with gymnasts. They are both certified professional members of USA Gymnastics, USA Gymnastics Safety certified, Tiny Tot Gymnastics certified, Members of United States Independent Gymnastics Clubs, and are Professional Development Program Level 1 & 2 certified. Chris is a Level 1 National PDP Test certifier along with being a past member of the New York State Board of Directors for USA Gymnastics. Chris received the 1999 New York State Coaches Service Award for his years of service to the NYS Gymnastic program. They are both coaches for Northeast Teams and have coached state, regional, and national competitors. Chris has a B.S. and M.S. in Physical Education from Ithaca College and Kim has a B.S. in Economics and Business from State University at Albany and is head Director of Northeast.

The school is also under the professional direction of MATTHEW FLANAGAN. As a former gymnast and graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Mathematics, Matt brings to Northeast both gymnastic experience and experience teaching gymnastics to children. Matt is a professional member of USA Gymnastics, USA Gymnastics Safety Certified, USA Gymnastics Professional Development Level 1 certified. In addition to teaching classes and being head coach for Northeast teams, Matt teaches Science at St. Pius X School in Loudonville.

KESHIA POWELL... A gymnast for 11 years and a former team member of Northeast Gymnastics for 9 years Keshia graduated from Troy High School and now attends Spelman College in Atlanta Georgia where she is majoring in Political Science and has a minor in Secondary Education.
YUMI MACDONALD... A competitive gymnast for 5 years Yumi graduated from Colonie Central High School and now attends SUNY Cortland where she is majoring in Kinesiology.
ALYSSA NASCA... A competitive gymnast for 7 years Alyssa graduated from Shaker High School and now attends the University of Delaware where she is majoring in Art Conservation and has a minor in Spanish
MELISSA KRUSZEWSKI... A competitive gymnast for 6 years at Gymnastics City, Melissa graduated from Walter Panas High School in Cortlamdt Manor New York and now attends SUNY Albany where she is majoring in Communications.
